Zia shares his love of music, which automatically bumps her up from "psycho magic castle resident" to "psycho tolerable magic castle resident". They really need a jam session. Compose, burst into song, all that. She's lovely and friendly, which makes her pretty okay. Wait, how old is she? Is she underage? Nevermind, she's not lovely anymore.

MERRILL dalen

Deep, deep respect. The Once-ler has not spoken to Merrill very much, nor have they known one another too long, but her willingness to take care of the truffula tree has him overflowing with gratitude. She's also really pretty, how can anyone be that pretty? Dang. Bottom line is, if Merrill wants anything, absolutely anything, the Once-ler will do everything in his power to get it for her. Forever.

ZHANEEL bondedgryphon

Zhaneel is a fucking ~~bird~~ gryphon, and that is amazing. The Once-ler has no problem suspending his beliefs when he talks to Zhaneel because she's just so damn cool. He wants to know everything about her so he can better understand just what a gryphon is (and just how someone can create such a lifelike robot).

Rapunzel is great. The Once-ler could probably talk about Rapunzel all day (if he trusted you enough to do so). I mean, yes, she's nice and beautiful and generous and is known to induce cavities, but he likes her for reasons more than that. She is truly unlike anyone he's ever met before in nearly every meaning of the word. In that aspect she is downright fascinating. The Once-ler treats their relationship like glass. Losing her would devastate him.

Cooking buddies! Anybody that likes marshmallows as much as the Once-ler does is a friend of his. Zeke's a pretty cool guy, really laid back, and the Once-ler likes that. He doesn't have to live up to any unrealistic expectations when he's hanging out with Zeke, which is great for his stress level.
